Hotel Furniture Shipping from China to UAE: FOB, CIF & DDP Costs

Hotel furniture ships KD (knocked-down, flat-pack) to maximize container utilization. A 40HQ container (standard high cube: 12.0×2.35×2.69 m) fits approximately 25-35 hotel nightstands, 15-20 wardrobes, or 20-25 TV cabinets depending on design. A 200-room hotel project typically needs 8-12 40HQ containers. We optimize packing arrangements: smaller items (nightstands) go first, wardrobes and TV cabinets fill the middle, desk panels and headboard slats fit into remaining gaps. Packing density directly affects your freight cost per unit.

Current (June 2026) rates for 40HQ container from Qingdao to Jebel Ali (Dubai): $1,800-2,400 FOB local charges (documentation, THC, haulage to terminal). Ocean freight adds $1,200-1,800 depending on carrier and season. Total delivered to Dubai port: approximately $3,000-4,200 per 40HQ. CIF (cost, insurance, freight) adds about 0.3% of cargo value for marine insurance. DDP to a Dubai warehouse: $4,500-6,000 per container including customs clearance (5% duty), VAT (5%), documentation fees, and last-mile delivery. Rates fluctuate with fuel prices and capacity — we requote at time of booking.

UAE customs is straightforward for hotel furniture. Required: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, and certificate of origin (issued by China Chamber of Commerce, takes 1 day). HS codes same as KSA: 9403.30 or 9403.60. Duty: 5% GCC common tariff. VAT: 5% (applicable on duty-paid value). No SABER equivalent in UAE — clearance takes 2-3 days typically. Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) and Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) offer duty-free warehousing if you're re-exporting to other GCC countries. We've shipped to JAFZA for projects destined to Qatar and Oman.

Qingdao to Jebel Ali (Dubai): 15-18 days (direct, weekly sailings with COSCO, MSC, ONE). To Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Port: 17-20 days. To Sharjah: 16-19 days. Customs clearance: 2-3 working days. Door delivery within UAE: 1-2 days after clearance. Total door-to-door from our factory to Dubai hotel site: approximately 28-35 days including production (assuming standard 30-day lead time). Rush production (21 days) + sea freight + clearance = 42-45 days minimum from order placement.

If your UAE entity is in JAFZA, DMCC, or another free zone, you can import duty-free and clear to your warehouse without paying 5% duty. Duty is only payable when goods move from free zone into mainland UAE. Many hotel suppliers keep inventory in JAFZA and clear per project. For direct-to-hotel delivery (mainland), duty is payable at clearance. We provide separate HS code declarations per product type, so your customs broker can optimize clearance. Our documentation includes: 2 copies each of commercial invoice, packing list, BL, COO, and fumigation certificate (if using wood pallets — we switched to all-corrugated pallets for UAE shipments, no fumigation needed).
